With almost twenty years of news and news programming experience to her credit, Ms. Smyth is an award-winning media veteran who brings a wealth of experience to her work in the radio and television industry.
Ms. Smyth’s career to date has spanned all facets of the broadcast news sector including news reporting, news anchoring, news-talk radio, commentary and assignment editor roles. Insightful, with a unique ability to capture the essence of a story, she has an enviable brand recognition factor as an on-air personality.
In 1999, Ms. Smyth rose to senior levels with her appointment as News Director at 680News where she led award-winning coverage of the contested 2000 U-S Presidential Election, as well as the tumultuous events of 9/11. Ms. Smyth’s efforts also helped 680News become the first radio station in Canada to capture the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Newscast.
Ms. Smyth made the move to television in 2003 in her role as News Director at Global Television in Toronto. Under her leadership, Global captured an RTNDA News Coverage Award. She also helped Global Toronto develop a distinguished news brand. In 2005 Ms. Smyth became the News Director at AM640 Toronto Radio where she continues to build and bring credibility to the station’s news brand.
Ms. Smyth’s TV experience, combined with her radio expertise gives her the depth of knowledge to work in key areas of broadcast news, where she is known to develop winning teams and systems able to work and win in a fast-paced 24/7 environment.
A natural communicator and consultant, she brings a dynamic energy and focused approach to complex content challenges.
Ms. Smyth is a member of RTNDA Canada and Canadian Women in Communications and a supporter of Canadian Journalists for Free Expression. A graduate of the University of Western Ontario, Ms. Smyth also holds a Diploma in Broadcast Journalism from Fanshawe College.
