Momentum is to the NHL what an ice rink is to Namibians. Wouldn’t know what to do with it if it fell into their laps.
The league had momentum back in 1994. It was finally getting some attention on the heels of the Rangers’ Stanley Cup win, only start the next season in a lockout.
And they’re screwing it up again this year with playoff scheduling.
One of the prevailing theories behind a lack of American audience is that the NHL playoffs stretch into June, and compete with the NBA playoffs.
So here’s a gift from the hockey Gods to the NHL brass. It may have been a snoozer of a second round but at least it ended quickly, allowing the league to get right back at it good and early. With both series ending on Sunday, why not open the conference finals on Tuesday?
Not gonna happen.
